Personal Approach
I work integratively, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, a Person-Centred Approach and Attachment Theories. This allows me to adapt my ways of working to suit the individual needs of the client. In a nutshell:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a form of therapy which explores how our thoughts impacts our behaviours and vice versa. By challenging thoughts, it can help us to change our behaviours.
A Person Centred Approach was devised by Carl Rogers and allows the therapist to try to understand the client's world views and persepectives, rather than using their own to better see how the client is responding to the world around them.
Attachment Therapy looks at how we form bonds with others, how our relationships in childhood impact our relationships in adulthood and how our past can influence how we feel now.
Experience
I have five year’s experience as a counsellor/psychotherapist predominantly counselling people with issues involving Trauma, sexual abuse, rape and domestic abuse. Due to the nature of trauma, this has also led me to working with Eating Disorders, OCD, Self Esteem, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Phobias and more presenting issues.
I also have four years experience working in mental health with trauma, crisis and victims of sexual violence.
I have two years experience working in education and residential care with learning disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
